Escape to Woodstock

Last weekend we road tripped to one of our favorite funky towns in upstate New York: Woodstock! We also got to visit our friends at Woodstock Way Hotel, a new contemporary hotel tucked away in the woods (but just a few steps into town) that gives you all the bohemian vibes of this legendary town.

Considering our obsession with cocktail making, we were asked to create a drink inspired by our weekend stay. Enter the Woodstock Way, a bourbon-based cocktail which marries the dark smokey woodsiness of sweet alpine berries, and notes of black pepper, apple and rosemary. Stir one of these up tonight, light a fire and get cozy under a wool blanket until spring! See recipe below…

Instructions
Make the black pepper simple syrup:
  1. Place sugar, water and peppercorns in a small pot and bring to a boil, stirring once or twice. Once sugar is dissolved take off the heat and let cool. Leave the peppercorns in the syrup to lend it a stronger flavor; strain them out when it is spiced to taste. Chill. (syrup recipe courtesy of www.saveur.com)
Make the cocktail:
  1. Combine and stir bourbon, stumato, apple liqueur and black pepper simple syrup with ice in a mixing glass. Strain into coupe glasses. Twist your lemon peels directly over glass to release oils. Garnish each glass with a sprig of rosemary and lemon peel.
