One of the most important elements to any room is One of the most important elements to any room is what's on the windows. I've always admired design that truly embraces the history of a building. For our home, it brings us back to the iconic style of the early 19th-century. I’ve done quite a bit of research lately on drapery. As you can imagine, it's extremely expensive, especially when it’s custom and you need 18 panels for your windows! While I do feel like it’s a wise investment and, like a good pair of heels or handbag, a dramatic statement piece, there’s also the budget to consider. This is when I decided I could tackle making drapes myself. So, I put my Sandra Lee hat on and went for a “semi-homemade” approach. Check out my drapery tutorial on the blog for a relatively easy DIY project that makes a luxurious design statement on your windows (link in profile). #diy #vintageinteriors #howiseeluxury

Of course, here in Sullivan County it wouldn’t be entirely unusual for it to snow yet one more time so we enjoy it while it lasts! Potting spring bulbs around the house and on the table is an easy way to kickoff spring, despite the snow we still have on the ground. 🌞💐🌸 #springiscoming #tablescape

Owning an old home is quite the journey. The fun p Owning an old home is quite the journey. The fun projects, the not-so-fun projects, the projects you redo because another option makes more sense—or you're just bored of it—and the long list of projects that somehow just gets longer. The arguments, compromises, and strong opinions (mostly mine). Old house or new, I'm sure you can relate, right? From the words of my mother when we closed on the house, "darling, you're never really done". She was right, and we haven't regretted a single minute of it!

It’s been a year since we had guests in our home It’s been a year since we had guests in our home. The sound of my cocktail shaker at the bar, the unique smells in the kitchen, jazz playing on vinyl, clinking of glasses, and sweet sounds of laughter at the table. Having these moments between just the two of us has always been fun but what we miss most over the past year is sharing them with others. 🍽💚🍸

Jeon is a whole category of Korean food similar to Jeon is a whole category of Korean food similar to omelets or pizza. Essentially a savory pancake—popular versions include scallion, seafood, and kimchi. You can use whatever you have on hand to put them together and easily make them vegan, though we add an egg for fluffy texture and extra richness. We serve ours with Ssamjang, a Korean spicy dipping sauce. Be creative and trust your culinary instincts; it’s really hard to go wrong with jeon! We’ve always been big fans of vegan dishes and t We’ve always been big fans of vegan dishes and the creative use of ingredients many of them employ. Plus, now more than ever we need to consider the impact our behaviors have on the environment. Plant-based eating has a huge impact on the environment and living a more sustainable lifestyle. Naturally tender and briny hearts of palm make for a startlingly realistic “calamari”. Rings of hearts of palm are lightly coated in a batter seasoned with Old Bay and nori then fried to golden perfection, and if you tell your guests the dish is fried calamari, they’ll likely believe you! THE FARMHOUSE PROJECT

We’re two boys from the big city who decided to unplug and embark on the project of a lifetime; historically renovating a 216 year-old farmhouse in upstate New York. We invite you to follow us as we transform our weekend retreat room by room, undertake a variety of DIY projects, adjust to country living and narrowly escape killing each other.
