Wrapping with Nature: The Gift that Keeps on Giving
Let’s face it — you either love wrapping presents…or you hate it. I love it! It’s probably just as fun as making or buying the actual gift. However, the one thing I don’t like is buying all the wasteful wrapping paper, plastic bows and other materials you crumple up and toss into the garbage. At the farmhouse we’re all about repurposing things we have around the house. The rolls of craft paper we have are mostly used for the floors when we’re painting, rebuilding or entertaining. A friend gave us vintage wallpaper that we now use for wrapping paper and holiday cards. You can also use pretty dish towels that serve as an additional gift or even scrap fabric you have lying around to wrap your presents.
To enliven your gift, take a walk in the yard. A hardy pine tree is always up for some pruning here and there, along with a winterberry bush. If you’re in a warmer climate you can utilize flowers, herbs and other greenery. We have a small herb garden in the kitchen with rosemary: the perfect clipping with a lovely holiday smell. Tie up your nature’s treasures with some simple twine or repurposed ribbon.
This is such a wonderful rustic look that’s simple and can be done at any time of the year.
Happy wrapping!

Love all the natural elements with the brown butcher paper and plaid ribbons. Great combinations! Where can I purchase that red jute/twine I see in the one photo? Looks fun to use. Paula- Windmill Farm in Northern Ca.
Hi Paula,
Thanks for the love! I found the red jute at a local Home Goods store but I bet you can find online too, try googling it.
Have a wonderful Holiday! xoxo Shawn & Kris
